Tuesday Talk with Dr. Dain - September 1, 2020
Ahoy Me Hearties!
Can you believe we are here? September 1st? We are definitely in the home stretch; it’s the FINAL COUNTDOWN! (Cue the song “Final Countdown” from the band, Europe, circa 1986. A big hit for those of us 80’s Babies!)
I have several final district department updates for you tonight, so here we go!
Our district and building administrators and support staff have been working around the clock to ensure we have everything needed to provide a safe learning environment to students as they return to school. If your child has a fever or is exhibiting any COVID 19 symptoms, please keep them at home and immediately call your doctor.
Here is what is in place at all schools:
- Masks are required for both staff and students at all times
- Temperature checks
- Frequent hand washing and hand sanitizing
- Social distancing
- Cohort Groups
Secondary Cohort Groups:
I did want to share with parents that the district has taken the extra precaution of cohorting our secondary student athletes together by sport. This keeps the athletic cohorts in place and also allows us to try to prevent cross contamination between our students who are not participating in extracurricular events and those who are participating in fall athletic events.
Per DS Bus Lines, all student buses and pick up times are exactly the same as last year. Kindergarten parents should be receiving a call from DS Bus Lines with specific bus numbers, stops and pick up times. If you cannot remember the specifics from last spring, or have questions about anything related to transportation, please feel free to reach out to our District Transportation Manager, Kathy German at: firstname.lastname@example.org
Today we received word from the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) that free lunches will be provided for all students through December. We are thrilled with this news. Please watch for further communication from the district!
We realize that some families were not able to pick up their student devices last week. Please find below the two different procedures for families still needing to pick up devices:
Remote Students: Please make an appointment to pick up student devices at the Tech Center with James Grogan, Technology Director at: email@example.com
Hybrid Students: Students will pick up their devices at school on the first day. Please contact your building administrator if you have further questions.
As I close, I just want to thank you, THE PARENTS, for the trust, grace, compassion, and understanding you have provided to me, our district and building administrators, and our teaching & support staff. I know the last six months have not been easy, but I am so grateful to be in a community that not only values education, but you love and support all of the Piper USD 203 team members who have been working tirelessly to have everything ready for September 9! Please know we see and feel your trust, sensitivity, and kindness as you allow us to educate your treasured children.
Proud to be a Pirate,
Dr. Jessica Dain
