September BOE Brief Recap

The Board of Education held its regular meeting at Piper High School on Monday, September 10. Below is a brief summary of meeting discussion and action.

  • Matt Krull from CBIZ Benefits & Insurance Services of Kansas City presented information to the board regarding changes to the benefits plans being offered in 2019. Open enrollment for employees will begin in October for the 2019 plan year.
  • During an update on the building project for the new 3rd-5th grade building at 131st and Leavenworth Road, representatives from the Unified Government, JE Dunn, and RIC were available to answer questions from board members regarding the sewer and roadway improvements required for the project. At this time it is projected the district will need to invest $1.1 million in sewer and roadway projects to accommodate future growth in the area as a result of the construction of the school. The board voted 6-0 to authorize Superintendent, Tim Conrad, to pursue an agreement with the Unified Government regarding future roadway improvements that would be required should Phase 2 of the project come to fruition in future years.
  • During his Superintendent’s Report, Mr. Conrad provided the board with an update regarding the Bond Reinvestment. By removing the bonds from the MIP, the district is able to grow its investments at a higher interest rate of 2.4%, which equates to approximately $400,000 in additional revenue available at the conclusion of the project.
  • The board voted 6-0 to approve the District Complete Strategic Plan 2018-2019 as presented.
