    Curriculum Overview

The 3 and 4 year old curriculum is based on the Kansas Early Learning Standards (www.ksde.edu). The Kansas Early Learning Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what young children are expected to know and be able to do, so that teachers and parents can support their learning and development. Further, the standards were developed to align with what research says about young children’s language and early literacy development. Our curriculum encompasses physical and self-help skills, social-emotional development (including engagement and personal social skills) communication and literacy (including oral language, phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, print awareness and writing) and general and mathematical knowledge (including emergent numeracy, approaches to learning, and problem solving.)

    Eligibility and Waiting List

Students must reside in the Piper USD 203 School District. Proof of residency will be required upon enrollment. A waiting list will be maintained for children waiting for an opening in the program. When an opening occurs, the next child at the top of the Pre-K waiting list will be called. If they are no longer interested, then we will call the next in line.

    Transportation

Transportation services through the district’s school bus program is only available for the 4 year old students only. These buses are equipped with seat belts and/or harnesses. Parents/guardians will be responsible for providing transportation to and from the school. There are no mid-day busses. If you have any questions regarding transportation, please call Durham School Services at 913-721-9019.
Parents or a responsible adult must be visible at the bus stop in the afternoon, or your child will not be allowed to exit the bus. In that case, your child will be taken to Piper Elementary School to the Schoolbridge program. We will attempt to contact parents/guardians to pick up their child. There will be a charge of $8.00 for the return to Schoolbridge and an additional $8.00 per hour after that. If you arrive at Schoolbridge before the bus returns your student, you will not be charged. Keep in mind it could take an additional 30 minutes on the bus, as the drivers must complete their route first. Please have I.D. available for the bus driver.
