Some of BLAZE's initiatives within the District include the mentoring group Pirate PALS, monthly Read & Plays focused on diverse literature and social-emotional learning, and various building-specific efforts at each of our school sites.

Black Leaders of America (BLA) aims to serve the PHS campus with cultural, educational, and social initiatives as it builds leaders, promotes unity, and contributes to student success.
The Queer Inclusive Educators Group is funded through the It Gets Better Project grant that two of our district's 2023 seniors won. Monthly sessions began in September 2023 and are scheduled through March 2024. The Educator's Guide to LGBT+ Inclusion is the foundational text and the sessions are facilitated by Delia Pérez-Solórzano and Aniseto Herrera-Lyell.
A mentoring program that models the Big Brothers / Big Sisters program, Pirate Pals matches Piper High School and Piper Middle School students to mentees at Piper Creek Elementary, Piper Prairie Elementary, and Piper Early Childhood Center for weekly sessions where they play and learn together.
Students visit other schools in the District monthly to read stories that focus on social and emotional learning or that celebrates Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Women's History Month, etc.
