How do we work in order to improve student performance? This is a question that each of us ask every day at Piper High School. As we continue to make our students aware of what they need to learn, why they need to learn and provide them with the resources to learn it is also important for us to share with parents as to what we are doing in order to improve student performance.

We currently have redesigned our seminar time (two 90 minute blocks per week) to allow for teacher requested individual instruction with students who are in need as well as time for students to initiate instruction from teachers of their choice. We also are providing incentives to increase student performance in an attempt to establish goals and motivation to reach them. Students are recognized for performance, attendance and behavior. Teachers have also developed additional before or after school times where students can receive additional help.

As we focus on awareness, we have improved our notification process to better inform parents or their child’s progress. With easy access to Powerschool 24 hours a day/7 days a week, parents can look to see exactly what their child is doing in class…or even what their child has not done in class. Parents can check attendance and tardies as well. In addition to Powerschool, we notify parents on a weekly basis, either by phone, email or progress report which identifies the areas that need improvement. At any time, we welcome parents to contact us if they have concerns about their child’s performance in attempt to work together.

The formula for student success is: students + teachers + administration + parents = success. It is important to follow up on your child’s academic performance daily and communicate with them in order to monitor and be pro-active with their needs. We are here to help kids! We are also here to help you help your kids!

Working together to help kids!

Sincerely,

Tim R. Conrad
Principal

IMPORTANT: Students who are tardy to first block, should report directly to the office upon their arrival to school. If a student is going to be tardy, please call us in advance (calling does not release the student from being tardy). Students who are tardy to school are responsible for making up assignments, etc. at the convenience of the teacher. Students assigned to ISS for tardies WILL NOT practice, play or be a spectator in extracurricular activities for that day. Students who are tardy to school more than 5 times will be turned in to the Truancy Officer assigned to USD #203. The student will receive a Tardy Slip that must be presented to their first block teacher prior to being admitted into class. The TARDY and ATTENDANCE policies will be STRONGLY ENFORCED!!! We have a new phone system that will allow parents to notify the school if their child will be tardy or absent. The phone number for this service is:

913-721-9041

and is exclusive for attendance notification.
