Q: Does the Piper Board of Education endorse a casino proposal. and why?
A:
The Piper Board of Education endorses the Legends Sun Casino proposal. This proposal is good for the district taxpayers as the increase in valuation will enable the Board of Education to reduce the property tax burden on Piper patrons. The Piper School District has the lowest per pupil funding rate of any school district in Wyandotte County. If Legends Suns Casino is approved, the increase in valuation will offset this inequity by providing additional local funds and a lower tax rate.
Q: Has there been confirmed a confirmed diagnosis of MRSA Staph infection?
A:
School officials have determined that a Piper student has a confirmed diagnosis of Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus or more commonly known as MRSA staph infection. Because the infected student participates in the football program, the district is taking preventative measures to avoid future infection.
The Community Education Building will be closed for sterilization effective immediately and will not reopen until Monday, October 22, 2007. Alternative dressing facilities will be utilized for the football game on Friday, October 19, 2007
Football pads, helmets, and equipment have been sterilized by USD 203 personnel. District personnel will laundry all athletic related garments in the locker rooms. Students are advised to bring additional undergarments until personal belonging can be sorted out.

Q: What is a mail-ballot election?
A:
Mail-ballot elections are different than walk-in elections. Each registered voter will receive a ballot by mail on or about October 26, 2007. Voters may mark their ballots and return them by mail to the Wyandotte County Election Office. Ballots must be received by the election office by Noon on November 13 to be counted.
Q: Is there going to be a bond issue?
A:
Yes. There will be a mail ballot election with a count day of November 13. It will be for a $29.962 million dollar referendum to build a new elementary school and an addition and remodel of Piper High School. It also include upgrades in security and technology for all schools.
Q: When will the Strategic Directions Comiittee recommendation for facilities be made to the Board of Education?
A:
The Board of Education will receive that recommendation on July 9, 2007 at the board meeting held at the District Office. The public is encouraged to attend.
Q: How do I find out if my child's teachers are highly qualified?
A:
Piper schools are fortunate to have qualified and caring teachers. Individual qualifications are available on request by calling 913-721-2088.

Q: I missed Parent/Teacher conferences because I had to work. Can I still make an appointment to meet with my child's teacher?

Of course! Parent/School communication is important to every student's success. Please call your child's teacher(s) to set up an appointment at a mutually convenient time.
Q: What's the best way for me to determine whether school has been canceled due to weather?
A:
[ LINK ] There are several resources parents and students can use to locate this information. All of the major radio and television stations will feature school/activities cancellation information just as soon as it is available. Cancellations will also be listed at this website.
Q: How can I stay informed about plans for future facility expansion or a bond issue?
A:
[ LINK ] A citizens group resumed the process of studying the district's facility needs on December 12, 2006. A report of the meeting has been posted on this website under the menu bar entitled "Facility Plan, Strategic Directions." The same report will be mailed to Piper patrons.
